Seriality of "The Fast and The Furious"

I will be discussing how “The Fast and The Furious” (2001-2017) by 5 directors (R. Cohen (1), J. Singleton (2), J.Lin (3-6), J.Wan (7), F. Gary Gray (8)) film franchise relates to the concept of film seriality. Film seriality is the concept that a set of films are all related to each other through certain connections that they may have. This may be through having direct sequels to each other or through methods of media convergence.

In terms of “The Fast and The Furious”, now the franchise consists of 8 parts that all of them made in chronological order. Recently, Vin Diesel announced that the last 2 parts will be released to 2021. The film does not have any prequels, just narrative storyline. For the last 3 parts, the franchise began to receive the great sums from box office. First 3 parts were about races but it became not relevant, the producers decided to use marketing way inviting famous actors to the franchise, such as Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell, Luke Evans, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron. When the audience hears such names, they are already interested in how their appearance will look in the franchise.

In addition, “The Fast and The Furious” does not focus on the plot too much. They use popular some kind of cliché, such as revenge to someone or rescue someone or planet. They pay more attention to special effects, unbelievable stunts. Who knows, probably one day, we will see Vin Diesel’s team in squad of Avengers.
