Camcorder vs Mirrorless
Canon XF100E vs Sony a7 II
In this blog, I am going to tell you about my experience with these two cameras above. The first one is Canon XF100E. I use it for school projects because I can attach some equipment, such as external boom pole microphone in contrast to the second one.
But the second camera is Sony Alpha 7 Mark II. This is my personal one. I use it in free time, just for myself and self-development for filmmaking.
Let's start with Canon. This little camcorder produces an impressive, beautiful picture in good light, i.e. exterior locations, but inside, in regular house light, it gets very, very, noisy and the video just falls apart to the point of distraction. However, the features, controls, response, image stabilisation are outstanding. I've only shot one project with it and am very pleased with the results and the quality of this camera.
What about Sony? The Sony A7 II is a superb camera that has all the benefits of a full-frame sensor without the bulk. It has good AF, superb image stabilisation and produces very high quality images in a wide range of conditions.
+ Canon XF100E -
Nice ergonomics Very grainy image in slightly dark places
Good optics
Easy operation and menu
Not heavy for such size
+ Sony a7 II -
Size and handling Viewfinder colours slightly undersaturated
Image quality Position of Record button
Effective in-body stabilisation system Fairly poor battery stamina
Great work of AutoWhiteBalance
Fast Auto Focus
In summary, obviously, between these two cameras I would prefer the last one - Sony. It has a lot of weightful advantages against disadvantages and even Canon's pros. However, it's necessary to try any different cameras as many as you can. It's good for you to have experience because in the future you will able to work with a lot of stuff perfectly.
